I’m a survivor of two life-threatening postpartum depressions. At the time of my illnesses, there was no help for me. The great news is that, if you’re suffering from depression in pregnancy or postpartum or know someone who is, there’s help now. For the last 20 years my mission has been to educate medical and mental health professionals, and work directly with women and their families around the world to make sure they don’t suffer the way my family and I did. I’ve worked with over 15,000 women, and I’ve never met one who did not fully recover when given proper help.

Let’s Talk About Sex…Well, Maybe Not. Why Are So Many Of Us Reluctant to Talk About Such an Important Part of Our Lives

For reasons that I really don’t understand, there is a real stigma associated with talking honestly with your partner about sex, and what works for you and what doesn’t.

But why is this? As I’ve said before, sex in a healthy relationship is a wonderful thing, and most men would really feel great if they knew they were truly pleasing their wives. And frankly, if they are not interested in pleasing you, then you have a problem. Because we all know there are some guys out there who are all about “me me me.”

On Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration announced that they are conducting a probe into the popular allergy medication Singulair because it allegedly causes depression and leads to risk for suicides. If I recall, several other drugs have lead to investigations for similar risks. Accutane comes to mind. Has anyone taking Singulair experienced these types of symptoms?

THURSDAY, March 27 (HealthDay News) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Thursday it was investigating the possibility of an increased risk of mood changes and suicidal behavior among those who take the highly popular asthma drug Singulair.

Singulair is the number one-selling drug among people aged 17 and younger. Last year, it posted sales of $4.3 billion, making it Merck & Co.'s top-selling product, according to the Associated Press.

In issuing its statement, the FDA stressed that asthma patients should not stop taking Singulair without talking to their doctor first.

I took a year off from my life in Southern California to take classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I moved from a cute little place blocks from the ocean to a college dorm. I moved from an exciting city of 500,000 people to a county of 85,000 people. The excitement here is going to Wal-Mart. I also left a career that defined me to be an anonymous student.

Here's a thought coming to us courtesy of English researchers and the BBC -- depression may be good for you. In an article published this week -- a leading psychiatrist says "that depression is not a human defect at all, but a defence mechanism that in its mild and moderate forms can force a healthy reassessment of personal circumstances."
