Yoga as a Competitive Sport...in the Olympics!

I just heard on NPR that yoga is trying to make its way into the 2020 Olympics! Some practitioners of Bikram yoga (the fast-paced yoga, where you sweat it out in a heated room) are creating a competitive-style of yoga, in which seven poses are performed within a few minutes for judging and perfection.

WASHINGTON - Estrogen fuels feelings of power and competition in women in much the same way testosterone does in men, researchers said on Wednesday in a study that shows the need to win is every bit as feminine as it is masculine.

Estrogen levels shot up in power-motivated women when they won and plummeted when they lost, while the opposite was true in women who appeared not to be interested in power, the researchers found.

Competition Affects Your Perception of Your Paycheck

How you feel when you see your paycheck may have a lot to do with how much your colleagues earn, according to a study by researchers at the University of Bonn in Germany.

They used magnetic resonance tomography to monitor brain activity in male volunteers divided into pairs. Each pair, in adjoining brain scanners, were asked to estimate the number of dots that appeared on a computer screen and were then told if they had the correct answer.
