SUNDAY, May 4 (HealthDay News) -- New research shows that only half of American mothers intend to have their teenaged daughters vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) if the girls are under the age of 13, despite government guidelines that suggest the opposite.

TUESDAY, April 29 (HealthDay News) -- Screening for cervical cancer reduces the risk for all types of the disease in women of all ages, say Swedish researchers. They also concluded that better follow-up of women who have cervical cancer screening could lower rates of the disease.

The researchers reviewed data from the National Cervical Cancer Screening Registry on 1,230 cervical cancer patients diagnosed between 1999 and 2001, and 6,124 age-matched women who hadn't been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

TUESDAY, April 15 (HealthDay News) -- Researchers say they've created a synthetic vaccine that can be delivered as a nasal spray for human papillomavirus -- the source of the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States and a cause of cervical cancer.

The experimental vaccine, tested so far just with mice, also offers protection against different strains of HPV, the researchers said.

Cervical cancer is the only cancer with a single-known cause – the human papillomavirus (HPV). And now there is a test to detect it: the HPV test. The Pap alone is not foolproof – it can miss up to half the time! But, when combined with the Pap, the HPV test is virtually 100% accurate in identifying women at risk for cervical cancer, so they can be monitored and treated well before cancer has a chance to develop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=624S8eU_9... http://www.thehpvtest.com/

Have you had an HPV test with your annual Pap test? I recently found out that the Pap test misses women with precancerous cells 15-50% of the time. Combining the HPV Test with the Pap for women over 30 increases accuracy to nearly 100%. Here's a quick clip about the test. You can ask for it along with your pap-- you don't have to do anything extra. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=624S8eU_9...
