Over the weekend, my mother casually stated that her arthritis has been bothering her. "What arthritis?" I asked her.
My mother is a very active woman just months away from her 80th birthday. She tries to walk 10,000 steps every day (we once calculated that to be a little over 2 miles for her). She has done 5-10Ks, knits lovely things for people and has beautiful hands with long tapered fingers. When she showed me her fingers, I was shocked that I had not noticed, before, that her knuckles were slightly deformed.

The cell phone is joining the arsenal of technology used to keep folks healthy.
A student-led group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge has developed a way to use cell phones to let tuberculosis patients report their adherence to the drug regimen they must follow. If the tests show patients are adhering to doctor's orders to take all their medication, they get rewarded with free cell phone minutes, the Associated Press reports.

As I try to write this I am Flashing. I had a Hysterectomy 2 and 1/2 years ago. I am 55 years old. Ever since the surgery I have massive mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats. I can't sleep without a sleeping pill and now I add a muscle relaxer because of my resistance to the sleeping pills. I take Estratest but does not seem to help much. I have been on anti-depressants for 20 years my dosage had to be increased since the surgery. I read your article in the newpaper today and copied it at work.

I would like to know if my stress from taking care of a wheeelchair and bed bound spouse affect any of my current conditions. I know if I get away for a couple of hours I feel much better, but it tires me out. I could easily sleep most of the day if I had time.
I had serious surgery in Nov 2007 for an ulcer that would not heal so nopw there are medications, such as for Ostoperosis that I can no longer take. Also I can no longer take Celebrex for my arthritis.
Any suggestions for substitutes?
Thanks

I read lots in the media about prevention, which is great, but very little about what might help those of us who are already living with cancer. I am (so far) a 7-year survivor, and want to live many more years. I'd like to know if some of these preventive treatments would also be helpful for women like me, and what the new treatments are for us as well.

TUESDAY, May 27 (HealthDay News) -- Adding paclitaxel to standard chemotherapy improved disease-free survival in women with early-stage breast cancer, a Spanish study finds.
The phase III trial included 1,246 women with early, non-metastatic breast cancer who were randomly assigned to receive treatment with fluorouracil, epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide (FEC), or FEC followed by weekly paclitaxel (FEC-P).

My friend has had some cardiac complications and atrial fibrillation for a few years. She is 77 years old and she is looking to get a second opinion about her condition.
