What do dermatologists think about microderm abrasion, buffing or exfoliating?

There are so many commercials and different product lines, that I am really trying to decide where best to spend my money and have the healthiest skin.

I assume dermatologists would just say to use an approved, mild facial cleanser and daily moisturizer with SPF 30+...and that's all you need.

What about all the other products to help exfoliate, buff or otherwise "improve" your skin and protect it from further damage or aging appearance? IS mircroderm abrasion helpful or a scam?

thanks!

A study published in the July 10 online edition of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology states that the number of melanoma cases among women has increased 50% between 1980 and 2004, while the rates for men leveled off. The study was conducted on men and women aged 15-39 and suggests that there has been no significant result of skin cancer education upon young women.

My family and I are planning a beach vacation, and it seems every year one of us is stung by a jellyfish or bitten by sand mites (is that even the right term?).

What should I pack as first aid treatment as a precaution?

In my work as an elder care advocate I am often asked to recommend a physician and frequently hear the challenges families face with finding the right physician for their needs. Until my late twenties I did not have a primary care physician (PCP) who I saw on a regular basis. I religiously kept my well women visits with my Ob-Gyn, but never with a PCP. I was one of those women who never got sick, lived at the gym, and had a youthful metabolism that allowed me to love my skinny black dress and ice cream. Why did I need a primary care physician?

How Often are Routine Doctor Visits Recommended: OB/GYN, Dentist, Optometrist/Opthamologist, Dermatologist, and others?

I know that I am suppsed to visit my OB/GYN once/year for a Pap Smear and to get a refill on my birth control pills. I also know that I am supposed to go to my dentist/dental hygienist every 6 months for a dental cleaning and checkup.

I am wondering if there is a list of recommended preventative screenings or "check ups" that we are supposed to get, for certain ages (from an unbiased source)? (For instance, is my dentist wanting to make money from seeing me twice a year, or is this medically necessary)?
